New Project “Revitalization of the eyecare system in the regions of Armenia”

The initiative to revitalize the regional eye care system in Armenia is a five-year project. The first of five clinics will be located in Tavush. The goal of the initiative is to ensure access to quality eye care throughout the regions of Armenia for all layers of the population. And, to revitalize the regional eye care system in Armenia through establishment of permanent secondary level eye clinics in five regions in Armenia. The clinics will eventually replace the tours of the MEH and partially take over its humanitarian mission as well as providing eye care services to those who are not eligible for free healthcare. The AECP, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, will secure equal access to high quality services for all income groups (the MEH provides care only for the socially vulnerable), which will make the Regional Clinics self-sustaining.

The Regional Eye Clinics will be located in the premises of medical centers operated by the Armenian Government. The locations of five regional eye clinics will be selected based on their potential capacity to provide services for a larger number of people; the absence of an eye clinic or a clinic of poor quality; the potential of securing a specialist including an ophthalmologist surgeon for the region. Those Regional Eye Clinics will make high quality eye care services accessible, affordable and affable for a large majority of the population in the regions.
